For you to implement some of these, you must try one at a time. The best way is to form one habit for a few weeks until you get used to it. Then you move to the next one.
It shouldn’t become something that you have to struggle to do daily.
I have tried some of these, and it has helped me a lot during my debt-free journey.

1. Write down all your expenses
Write everything in your journal, notebook, anything will work. Write down when you are buying groceries, paying your bills, or anything which takes money out of your pocket.
When you write down all your expenses, you will be stunned by how much money you spend. It will surely open your eyes and help you to manage your budget better.
2. Freeze the credit cards
Yes, you hear me, and I mean all of them. If your credit cards are in your purse or with you, you will be tempted to use it, putting you in debt.
Can you remember how much you spend on your credit cards? Do you?
I am sure you don’t keep track of that.
Just think for a second, is it crucial to buy things that you don’t have money to pay for? Is it a smart way of living?
Of course not.
3. Start a change jar
You might remember how your grandparents used to save money in jars. It’s old school, but it helps a lot.
Just collect any spare change that you find around the house, in your pockets, or leftover from your shopping and put it in the jar.
Save money in it until it is almost full. For example, keeping the jar next to the washing machine might be useful if you have the habit of checking pockets before loading the machine with clothes.
You can use that money for many things like paying your kid’s tuition or renovating your house.
4. Save any extra money received
Often we get some extra bucks like a bonus check or a gift. Usually, we don’t need the money as it is something we don’t receive every month.
Just save the money in a separate account, and you might be amazed at how fast it builds up without you even noticing it.
5. Turn off appliances and electronics at night
Many of us make the mistake of not shutting off appliances and electronics, especially wireless modems, though it still uses electricity.
Below are some annual costs when you leave appliances and electronics on standby mode:

6. Replace your bulb with LED bulbs
When you are required to change bulbs in your house, try changing them to LED until your whole house is only full of LEDs. The average incandescent bulb cost around $35 per year.
The led is as effective as costing you $4 per year.
7. Switch to cloth napkins
Paper napkins are expensive. I have made the switch to cloth napkins years ago and haven’t looked back. I usually toss them in the laundry once a week. You can make your cloth napkins if you want to. The cool thing about it is that it lasts longer.
8. Use rags instead of paper towels
You can get rags, or you can just cut up old clothes or sheets to use. This will be very useful as paper towels come with some cost.
If you use 1 roll of a paper towel in one week, which costs around $2. In one year, that will amount to $96. It doesn’t seem much, but just think what you can do with $96.
9. Cut your own hair
I have cut my hair since 2017, and I can say that it has helped me a lot. I just had an initial investment of $25 on a trimmer. That’s it. The money saved allowed me to invest in making my life better.
If you are a family of 4, you can save up to $400 per year. That’s a lot of money. The things you can buy at $400 are endless because you have such a variety of options.
10. Start Gardening
I am sure that you have a garden no matter where you live. Try to grow at least some vegetables. This will also help you to stay fit and be connected to nature. There is a certain amount of peace you get when you close to heart.

11. Prepare your bread and cook more meals at home
Well, that doesn’t sound interesting if you have a job. Eating out is a drain on your budget. If you cook in more, you can save hundreds of dollars a month.
What I can suggest is that you buy a bread machine. It will surely help in the long run.
If you don’t think you have enough time to make bread, I highly recommend investing in a bread machine. It will be worth it in the long run. All you have to do is add about 5-6 ingredients, push a few buttons, and let it go.
12. Don’t throw away any food
This seems challenging as people throw food often. What you can see here is a lot of wasted money that you are throwing in the garbage.
Instead of throwing away your food, try to get out all the leftovers twice per week and set them up in a buffet menu style. I am sure that you will enjoy this as having different food is a nice feeling. Don’t let food hanging out in the back of the fridge until it gets moldy.
13. Make one freezer meal per week
We all get busy with work, kids, and maintaining housework. Trying to cook every day adds pressure in your life. This is an excellent way to save some money.
Also, you will be able to have a lazy night during the week. Some nights you would not want to cook, and that time can be better spent by having a romantic night with your significant other.
14. Go meatless 2-3 days per week
Meat is expensive nowadays for the amount of protein it provides. Eating more vegetables is not only good for your health but will help you save more and be more efficient in your day-to-day life.
Yeah, baby, let’s go green.
15. Use 1/4 less laundry detergent
This works well. I have tried it, and the result is almost as good as you would use a full load. You can even try using 60% instead of 75%. If all your family members work in an office, it will be perfect for you.
16. Don’t spend every weekend
It might seem tedious, but believe me, we have a tendency to spend a lot on weekends. Especially when we go out with family or do some shopping.
It’s a cure for boredom. Well, I am not saying you don’t spend it at all. Instead of spending every week, try to skip one weekend.
Some of the best moments I had during childhood were when my mom used to prepare good food at home, and we will go to the beach just to relax and eat the excellent food prepared by her.
Cooking together with your partner and make your kids contribute to that is a blissful experience. You will have fabulous family time with loads of interaction.
17. Be more creative with shopping
Everyone loves shopping. When you wait for deals on products, you can get some great prices. So plan your shopping only when there is a sale in your nearby shopping mall.
