This blog post can contain affiliate links. This means that, at no additional cost to you, I may receive a commission if you click through and make a purchase. Please note that I only recommend products and services that I personally use and trust.
Everyone hopes that their content will rank number one on Google.
Being in the top spot is really exciting. But it doesn’t mean that all your content should be on the top.
Actually, if all your blog posts rank for the 3rd and 4th positions, you will have a lot of traffic.
According to SmartInsights, the average click-through rate for the top 10 positions looks like this.

As you can clearly see, being in the top 4 is not that bad.
So, to be able to reach there, what’s more important?
Technical SEO or writing informative content?
Well, in my opinion, a combination of both will give you the best results.
There are far too many people who claim that blogging is really hard or it is very complicated.
But, for a person who is blogging for just 9 months, all I can say is that blogging is SIMPLE.
In fact, the truth is that there is too much information about blogging that will drive you crazy.
One thing you should never forget: Instead of searching for the overall best solution, try to find a solution that’s best for YOU.
Let me ask you a simple question.
What makes a blog successful?
Do you think there is a magical formula for your blog to become successful?
In the beginning, I did make the mistake of thinking that there is definitely ONE thing that I needed to change to make my blog super successful.
This stupid thinking made me read so much content, that I was about to give up on my blog.
The reason?
Everyone has their own way of working. What’s best for them doesn’t necessarily mean will be good for you.
After a lot of struggle it made sense that a blog must:
- Contain informative and inspirational content
- Have content that people are searching for
- Have a solid foundation and use the right blogging strategy
- Be consistent
Though these are the most important things that you should consider, it doesn’t mean that they are the only thing.
SPECIAL NOTE: 95% of aspiring bloggers who start a blog fail. Do you know why? It's because they are not using the right blogging strategy and they don't know the REAL TIMELINE for a blog. Did you know, that you can build a successful blog by spending only 1- 2 hours per day on your blog? Well, if you use MY BLOGGING STRATEGY, you will be able to do that.
10 Best practices for blogging to help you reach your goal
Here are the 10 most crucial things that will make your blog more successful.
1. Focus on a single topic
When your blog is new, it has low domain authority.
It means that Google doesn’t trust your blog and definitely won’t be sending traffic your way.
So, how can you establish authority for your blog?
The answer is really simple. By focusing on a single topic.
Once you have established your authority for a particular topic, you can move on to the next related topic.
But, there is a catch.
You won’t know which type of content will get traffic from Google.
That’s why, when you start to create content, write about a few topics. Once you notice which type of topic is generating traffic, focus all your time and energy on that topic.
That makes sense, right?
Once you have exhausted your keywords, you can move to the next topic.
You will notice that 1 or 2 topics will tend to outperform other topics for your blog. This is the usual trend for all blogs.
This is how Google sends traffic.
Pro tip: You will never get a ranking for all the keywords that your target.
2. Use the right keywords
Creating content without doing keyword research means that your content won’t be found by people. You are creating content that you THINK people like.
It’s one of the vital things that many aspiring bloggers tend to ignore.
Using long-tail keywords is the only way that will guarantee that you have a chance of getting on Page 1.
This is because there is too much competition for keywords that have high search volumes.
The solution?
Target keywords with 10-500 monthly search volumes. These keywords are often overlooked by authority sites which means they are not competitive.

3. Use Catchy tiles
Did you know that if you spend some time working on your post title, you can increase your CTR(click-through rate) by 50%?
Surprised?
Your post title will determine how much traffic, shares, and engagements it will get.
This is because not everyone will read an entire blog post before sharing it. Many people will share a blog post based on the title only.
In fact, ONLY the title will determine whether someone will click on your post.
For instance, if I have a blog post on “How to make money from home”, I am sure you won’t bother to click on it.
It sounds too boring.
But if I change the title to “5 easy ways to make $5,000 from home”, then I am pretty sure it will generate more clicks.
People want to know how they can make money from home. But adding the word EASY and $5,000 will make people more curious.
Curiosity triggers action.
That being said, it is recommended that you create at least 3-4 titles for every single post. Read them loudly till you find the one that seems more intriguing to you.
The trick is to make people more curious to click on your content.
If you really cannot create a few titles, it’s completely fine.
You can put your post title on a title generator to help you.
For instance:
Head over to “Tweak your biz” or SEOpresser and enter your post title.
If you use Tweak your biz, you will get titles for these categories:
- Lists posts
- Best
- How to
- Questions
- Love
- Sex
- Celebrities
- Secrets
- Business etc
4. Be very precise with your Meta Description
Meta descriptions are often overlooked since people think it’s not important.
But, you should not forget that your meta descriptions appear on Google search results.
For instance, they tell your potential visitors what the post is all about.
Your meta description should be able to people what they will get when they click on the search result.
A good description together with at least 1 keyword is recommended.
For instance, look at this search result.

The title implies: How can you make money with affiliate marketing using Pinterest.
The meta description: Is more focused on making a FULL-TIME income with Pinterest.
Now, this post has the potential to appear for a lot of search queries:
- How to do affiliate marketing with Pinterest
- The best guide to making money
- Affiliate marketing with Pinterest
- Affiliate marketing and full-time income
- How to earn a full-time income with affiliate marketing
- How to earn a full-time income with Pinterest
Pro tip: Your meta description should be at least 160 characters. Also, avoid keyword stuffing as it can hurt your SEO efforts.
5. Create content for your audience
There was a time when you could write content for search engines and they would be ranked on page 1.
This doesn’t work anymore. Google algorithm updates made sure that low-quality content doesn’t appear on top search results.
One thing you should never forget: The content that you WANT to write doesn’t mean it is the content that people LOVE to read.
The truth is:
People are very selfish. They are spending time on the internet to find answers to THEIR problems.
They won’t read your content if it’s all about you.
In short: Give them something that they desperately NEED.
And that is creating content that has quality pieces of information.
I am sure you must have come across this: If you want to become a millionaire find a solution that will help 1 million people.
For instance, if you are someone who sells a specific product. Don’t write about how the product is manufactured.
Write about how the product can help your audience to solve their problems.
That being said, your content doesn’t need to be 5,000 words. Sometimes a simple blog post of 1,200-1,500 words can be enough.
Though longer content tends to perform better on search results, it doesn’t mean that everyone will read 5,000 words to solve a simple problem.
This is something you should consider.
If you can make things more simple and easy for people, they will love you for that.
6. Post content more often
Posting once per week is something that almost every blogger can do.
Logically one blog post per week seems enough.
What do you think?
Let’s do simple math.
If you post once per week, in 12 months you will have 48 blog posts.
Do you think 48 blog posts will be enough for you to show authority?
I don’t think so.

According to Hubspot, websites that publish 16 blog posts per month tend to get 3.5 times more traffic.
This means that you should post at least 4 times per week, to get maximum traffic.
I know it sounds quite difficult to put that much content in 1 week.
But…
If your blog is brand new, this is the best option to establish authority in your niche.
Now, it doesn’t mean that if you post only 2 times per week, your blog will be a failure.
It just means it will take you longer to reach your goal.
If you can wait 2-3 years, then for sure post only 2 articles per week.
In the end, the number of hours you put into your blog will determine how much faster you will start to earn a full-time income.
7. add internal and external links
Adding internal and external links is one of the most traditional SEO practices.
Having links not only helps your content get higher rankings but also helps your audience to access your older blog posts.
Adding internal links also helps Google to understand your content and blog better.
When a reader comes to your website, you should make sure that they spend more time reading your content.
For instance, if you are monetizing your blog with Ads, this will help you generate more income.
So, make adding internal links a habit.
But, it doesn’t mean that you should add them manually.
You can use plugins to do the job for you.
I am currently using the Internal link juicer plugin for all my internal links.
8. Use images, videos, and statistics
When I started blogging, I didn’t really know the impact and power of using images in my content.
Actually, I was using images because it was fun.
Then one day, I stumbled across a post which stated that generally, people will only remember 10 % of what they read.
But if you use an image to convey your message, then people will remember almost 65% of what they read.
This made a huge impact on the way I created my content.
The truth is people, don’t really like to read plain texts. They need something visual to stimulate their mind.
That’s why using images, infographics and statistics will make your content better and more enjoyable.
You can also add videos to your content to increase the time people spend on your blog.
As you may have noticed, I have used images, graphs, and a video in this post.
Did these help you understand the content better?
If you answer yes, then I am sure you now know the importance of using them.
9. Find your best daily routine
Many people claim that you should spend 12-15 hours per day on your blog.
Personally, if I start to work that much, I will soon find myself in the hospital. There are always some health issues associated with working that number of hours.
Either those people are freaks of nature or they are hiding the side effects of their hard work.
These people are not your role model.
One thing is really important: Don’t try to do everything at once.
Try to focus on one thing at a time.
That’s why it’s important to find a routine that will work best for YOU.
For instance, if you have a 9 to 5 job, you can still create at least 2 articles per week.
Don’t believe me?
Well, here is a blogging schedule that can work really well for you.
Blogging schedule:
- In the morning (during weekdays) you can spend at least 1 hour creating content for your blog. (5 hours)
- In the afternoon (during weekdays) you can spend another 1 hour creating content. (5 hours)
- On weekends: 2 hours in the morning (Creating content) and 3 hours in the afternoon(Editing your content)
In one week, you will have (5+5+4+6)= 20 hours
20 hours is more than enough to create 2-3 articles per week.
That being said, if you can allocate more time in the morning it will be much better.
Many top bloggers claim that the first 4 hours in the morning are best to create quality content.
Now, that doesn’t mean you should follow this advice. You can create content anytime you want.
Pro tip: Try different routines to know which one is best for YOU.
10. Promote your content
You can have the best content on the web, but if people are not able to find it, it’s worth nothing.
That’s why it’s crucial to promote your content as soon as you hit the publish button.
So, how can you do that?
You can use your social media accounts.
As far as I know, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest are best for written content.
Now it doesn’t mean you should invest money or spend hours on social media to be able to get some traction.
I only spend 5-10 mins per day on social media (Mainly Pinterest).
That being said, I prefer to dedicate my time to Pinterest as it is the best way to bring targeted traffic to my blog.
