Becoming a professional blogger can be the best decision you will ever make in your life.
Why I am saying so?
There is enormous information on the web, where you see bloggers claiming that the only way to become a professional blogger is to work 14-16 hours per day for at least 2 years.
Well, if you want to go that route, then you can.
But my approach is different. I choose to work SMARTLY rather than killing myself with so much workload.
And this is what I will show you today.
I will show you how to become a professional blogger by investing only 15-20 hours per week on your blog.
Not 80-100 hours per week.
Crucial steps that will make you a professional blogger
1.Your blog must be self-hosted
Having your self-hosted blog is a PROOF that you are serious about blogging. You are not just writing for fun on free blog platforms, but you take blogging very seriously.
This is the first step.
And the awesome thing is that nowadays with just around $3.95 per month, you can have your domain name and blog online.
That’s the price for your Minty Hot Chocolate at Starbucks.
So, are you interest to trade just 1 Minty Hot Chocolate for your blog?

2.Choose a profitable blog niche
This is something that many aspiring bloggers struggle with.
So how can you deal with that?
First, you must understand that having a lot of passion for a niche doesn’t guarantee that you will earn a full-time income.
The niche must be PROFITABLE and if you have just a little passion, you will be able to make it work.
Second, don’t spend too much time deciding on a niche. You don’t want to be stuck at the “paralysis by analysis” stage.
Third, if you don’t have any idea about your niche, just start to create articles. In time you will know what is working and on which topics you will focus more on.
In short, just start writing articles.
If you allow me, let me tell you how I started my blog.
My first blog post was on how to earn $5-$20 per hour online.
I had the idea of creating a blog where I will show people how they can earn money online.
I did like the way the blog post turned out to be. But I wasn’t satisfied. So, I decided to write about saving money.
Hence, I created the “Best frugal living tips“.
As you can see I really didn’t know where I was going.
Then after a few articles, it started to make sense what I like and what resonates with my personality.
This is where I decided that I will write mainly about blogging and blog traffic.
Now, this is the core topic for my blog.
I told you this because almost everyone is confused with the niche they want to choose.
Your first few blog posts are just a test. In time you will know what you like and if you can create content for a particular niche for at least a few years.
Pro tip: If you don’t start you will never know.
3.Chose the right blogging strategy
If you have been reading about blogging stuff online, you might have encountered many people claiming to use a common blog strategy.
And that is to target keywords with high search volumes, write super long content, do guest posts, create a lot of links towards your blog(backlinks), create an email list, write a weekly newsletter, comment on your blog posts, create an ebook and the list goes on.
Well, it’s a nice blogging strategy. But it doesn’t appeal to me.
Well, because I am a bit lazy. I like to do things more smartly.
I am right?
Will my blogging strategy work?
Will you be able to generate a full-time income?
Will 15-20 hours per week be enough?
So, if you are interested to know what blogging strategy I am using for this blog, then you can read it here.
4.Target low competition keywords
Keywords that have high search volumes are very competitive. Your new blog (with low domain authority) has no chance of competing against blogs with High authority.
That’s why, when you target low competition keywords, you will have a better chance of getting a raking.
This is where the gold is.
People usually don’t target low search volume keywords ( 10-100 monthly search volumes).
They will target keywords with search volumes higher than 1000.
So, the keywords that are not being targeted will become the keywords that will build the authority for your new blog.
Let me explain.
Suppose you create 2 articles per week. In 1 year you will have 96 articles on your blog.
These 96 articles will contain keywords that no one is targetting. Anyone who does a Google search for those keywords will find your blog posts.
Now, here two things will happen.
First people who search for these keywords will stumble upon your blog. That’s free traffic from Google.
Second, if bloggers search for these keywords, they will find your blog post. So, if they have to link to an external source, you will be their priority. Hence you just earned a backlink for free.
The exponential effect is huge.
With a keyword that has 100 monthly search volume, you will generate at least 30-50 clicks.
So, if we do the math, you will roughly have 2,880-4,800 monthly traffic in 1 year.
Now I know, you must be thinking that the traffic is very low. But, you have to keep in mind that you will also appear for related keywords.
That will almost triple your blog traffic.
Still, 8,640-14,400 monthly views is not a lot.
With approx 8,000 to 10,000 monthly visitors from Google is enough to earn a few thousand dollars.
Now I am sure you want that, right?
5.Create good enough content
In the beginning, you will struggle to create content. Maybe you will take a few hours to create a blog post of 1,500 words.
Why I am saying a few hours, well I have gone through that.
But after 10 articles, you will start to get better. The thing is once you have figured your niche everything starts to fall into place.
Actually, you don’t need to create blog posts with 2,000-3,000 words to get on Google’s first page or even on the 1st position.
I have seen far too many blog posts with 600-800 words on the 1st position.
Why is that so?
Well, if you are targeting keywords with low search volumes, your content will easily get on Google’s first page.
This is why in the beginning you can create blog posts with 1,200-1,500 words.
In time, when your blog starts to get more traction (Traffic and authority), you can target high search volume keywords.
Now you must be wondering how many blog posts you should create when you are just starting.
Well, you can create 3-4 articles per week. This is the best posting schedule to get your blog noticed by Google.
According to Hubspot, to increase your organic traffic, you must post between 3-4 times per week.

You can read the full article here.
Now if it doesn’t mean that you HAVE to create 3-4 articles per week.
If you don’t have enough time, you can create only 1 article per week.
But you should know that it will take you longer to reach your goal(full-time income).
If you want to create more articles, then you will have to use a tool to speed up your process.
This is where Grammarly does a fantastic job.
It’s one of the reasons why the quality of my writing has increased significantly and I am able to create more content for my blog.

Don’t believe me?
Well, head over to this super easy guide, where you will learn everything that you need to know to optimize your content.
That being said, don’t ignore the importance of an optimized post. It can be the only reason that can determine your success in this industry.
7.Bring Targetted traffic to your blog
Now that you know how to produce content effectively, the next step is to bring TARGETED traffic to your blog.
Though getting traffic from Google is the best, the issue is that you will have to wait for your content to get raking.
So how long should you wait?
Well, depending on your efforts, it can take you a few months to start to get significant traffic from Google.
Now, if you are creating only 1 blog post per week, it can take you around 18-24 months.
This is the simple truth of blogging.
The faster you can create content, the faster you will get ranking.
For instance, if you create 3-4 articles per week, you can easily get traffic in 6-12 months.
Now, if you are impatient(just like me), you will want to have traffic from day 1.
For that, you will need to leverage your social media account.
You can either use Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.
These are the 3 platforms that tend to perform well for Blogs.
Here is a screenshot of my SOCIAL blog traffic for January:
I know it’s not a lot of traffic.
Only 3,376 blog visits from social media. Well, I am very happy with this because I have been blogging for only 9 months.
That being said, I had to do a lot of trials to be able to generate that kind of traffic from my social media accounts.
Note: All the traffic is FREE. I don’t invest ANY money on social media.
So, let me show you how I use these 3 platforms for my blog traffic.
Blog Traffic from Facebook
Since my time is very limited, I had to find a way to generate free traffic from Facebook automatically.
Yes, I don’t spend ANY time on Facebook at all.
All my posts are scheduled in such a way that they are constantly added to my Facebook page every 8 hours.
That means that every day, I have 3 blog posts that are added to my page.
The awesome thing is that I don’t have to pay anything.
If you want to learn more, here is a detailed article on how you can add all your posts automatically on Facebook for free.
Blog traffic from Twitter
As you can see, Twitter is the social media that is bringing the most traffic to my blog.
So, how I do manage to bring that kind of traffic.
Well, it’s really simple.
Even Twitter is on automation. But the awesome thing is that I have joined a free platform where people share my content on their Twitter account for free.
So, if you want that kind of traffic from Twitter, head over to this awesome article and learn how you can use Twitter for your blog traffic.
Blog traffic from Pinterest
This is my favorite.
I love Pinterest a lot.
Seriously I didn’t know the potential of Pinterest until I started to use it.
The thing about Pinterest is that if a pin does well, it can bring traffic for at least 6 months to 1 year.
This is huge. No other social media platform can do that.
The exponential effect is enormous.
I would like to show you how to use Pinterest to bring traffic to your blog, but I cannot do that here.
This blog post will become more than 10,000 words.
So, here are a few articles that I think will be of tremendous help to you.
- How to use Pinterest to drive massive traffic to your blog
- Pinterest manual pinning strategy for more traffic
- How to name your Pinterest boards to get more clicks
In my opinion, these 3 articles will be enough for you to understand Pinterest well.
So, don’t forget to read them.
That being said, once you are getting enough traffic to your new blog, the final step is to MAKE MONEY with your blog.
8.Monetize your blog
There are two most common ways to monetize your new blog.
The first is by displaying ads and the second is through affiliate links (Affiliate marketing).
Though both have their advantages, the choice is entirely up to you. If you are not able to decide between these two, the article below can help you.
That being said, if you want to use display ads on your blog, then you will need to do the following:
- Add Adsense code in your WordPress blog
- Block low Paying Ads
- Increase your Adsense RPM to earn 10 times more
By doing these, you are making sure that you will earn the maximum amount based on your blog’s traffic.
My favorite way to monetize my blog is by using affiliate links.
Well, now you must be wondering why is that so?
Well, because the money that you can earn with Affiliate marketing has no limits.
Now you must be wondering how I use my affiliate links?
Well, it’s easier than you think.
