As we enter 2022, it’s the perfect time to make a drastic change in your life. This is where your life changes forever.
A few years down the road, you will really be grateful for having taken this risk.
This is the turning moment of your life as you are prepared to do whatever it takes to make a living doing what you love.
Deep inside, you always knew somewhere you are not just born to work your whole life to pay bills, and now you are ready to make the necessary sacrifices to live a fulfilled life.
Imagine waking up one morning with a smile on your face and excitement about how you will spend the day without having to ask permission to do what you want to.
Sounds thrilling and exciting. Isn’t it?
Being able to travel more or take 1-2 weeks of vacation, living a more prosperous and more fulfilled life.
Having more adventures with your family, or even having more time for yourself are the motivations that will fuel your desire and give you the courage to move ahead when things are tough.
If you want to reach your destination and deep inside, you have the burning desire to do so, then you will surely succeed, my friend.
You are feeling your Passion from the bottom of your heart and excited for your new journey because you can live this life much, MUCH sooner than you think is possible.
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” — Oprah.
So are you ready and excited to learn how you can get away from your typical 9 to 5 job?
I am sure you are. Am I right?
Before I start on this journey of helping you escape your job, let’s discuss one important thing which will help you to prepare yourself better.
Shall we?
Vital steps to get away from your 9 to 5 job
1. Stop thinking like an employee.
I have been self-employed for over 6 years now, and I must admit it has been a challenging journey. But it was worth it.
Let me ask you a question.
What is the most challenging obstacle you think people face when they want to escape their 9 to 5 jobs and live the way they always wanted?
Well, I am sure you will say Finances, Dept, or maybe attachment to things/status/relationships.
No. Not at all.
It’s the mindset.
I know what you must be thinking. What mindset has to do with this?

Let me explain.
The reason it took me a long time (almost 7 years) to walk away from my job is that I was afraid of failure. I didn’t know how to replace my paycheck and didn’t dare to take the required risks.
I kept on saying to myself, maybe next year, or perhaps in a few years. I was hesitant, confused, not motivated, didn’t have enough courage, and many other things.
I was always someone who got discouraged easily. I will start something and leave it after a few weeks because I couldn’t see any results.
I have changed many jobs hoping to get a better salary and to feel better, but nothing worked.
Do you know why?
It’s because I didn’t know how to prepare my mind for success.
And I don’t want that to happen to you. Because it’s really frustrating.
Once I could align my mindset with what I wanted out of life, the someday goal became the reality of today.
It’s funny and exciting at the same time that the day you commit to making it happen, you immediately take action towards your goal.
You start to gain momentum, and then the unthinkable happens.
You start to see more clearly, and you begin to believe in yourself.
To feel motivated, you have to get started—at least one small task daily. You will soon see how it compounds over time.
What I have noticed over the years is this:
To be able to get motivation, you definitely have to start to do something. Your mind will keep you guessing, and you will never feel ready to start. I have wasted 7 years of my life staying at this stage.
It’s a stage in your life when you are overthinking, overanalyzing, and overplanning everything.
To escape this stage, you will need to start to take action.
Just remember: Action creates momentum-which creates motivation-which creates even more action.
Action → Momentum → Motivation → More action → More Momentum → More Motivation
From my personal experience, getting the mindset right is the first and most crucial thing before deciding to change your life.
Trust me, you can do it.
If someone like me was able to do it, then I am sure you can. You just have to believe in yourself.
But before that, you will need something that will give you a sense of security. What I mean is that you need to find another source of income.
2. Find another source of income
You absolutely have to find another source of income to at least pay your bills and have more time for yourself.
Please don’t forget, that having more free time will allow you to take the simple steps towards your goal more smartly.
There are many ways to earn some bucks online. The best way is by being a freelancer. This will give you more flexibility with your time.
Time is your most important asset when you are starting your own business.
Use it wisely.
All you will need is to have a good internet connection and a laptop or PC.
Below are two articles that will help you earn some money online in the beginning.
Be sure to read it as it will help you have better stability with your finances. If you are already earning an income, then you can skip it.
Bonus Tips:
3. Cut back on living expenses
My previous jobs allowed me to meet many people who were all fighting the rat race. One of the hardest things for them was to cut back on their expenses because they’ve become accustomed to the corporate lifestyle.
It’s evident that when you have a paycheck, you can allow yourself to spend more. We have been programmed to think and live this way.
This is how we are raised and how we are supposed to live our life.
Society and your relatives will swear that a day job is the ONLY way to earn a living. If you try to look at life from their perspective, they are right.
But these people are not their role models and you don’t owe anyone anything. It’s your life and you MUST do what makes you happy.
So, for you to go against a conventional lifestyle, you will need to adopt a lifestyle that is NOT conventional in any way.
Look, I know it’s difficult to cut down on expenses. But you HAVE to do it.
It’s one of the vital steps to becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Maybe you can adopt a minimalist lifestyle and live a more frugal life. I cannot emphasize how important it is to live this way.

If you are ready to make the necessary sacrifices, I am sure you will get what you desire. There are far too many self-made millionaires in the world who have at some point adopted a minimalist lifestyle.
If they did it and they are multi-millionaires, then basic logic says we must do it also.
4. Research what you want to do
After you have found a way to earn some income as a freelancer and get your expenses figured out, the next step is to do some intensive research on the work you plan to do for yourself.
As you are doing research, you will start to notice things you missed previously.
This happened to me a lot when I started my own business.
What I thought I knew and what I needed to know was completely different.
I must admit I wasn’t brilliant. I was completely wrong about most of the things I thought I knew.
It was tough for me to accept the simple reality of life:
I am here because of my previous choices and decisions. If I want a different life, I must change the way I used to live.
It sounds simple, but it isn’t. The moment you take full responsibility for your actions, and acknowledge that this is where you are meant to be right now, your whole life starts to change.

5. Make a detailed plan
Try to figure out what your end goal is and how much time it will take you to get there. The whole point of being a solo entrepreneur is to have freedom. Right?
Please don’t forget that working 14-16 hours daily is not required at all. This is where many people go wrong.
Even I had made this mistake before and was working like a madman. Poor me!
I used to believe that working more and doing more would get me success faster.
Boy, I was wrong!

That’s why it’s essential to have a good and detailed plan at first. Usually, working just 6 hours per day, in the beginning, is more than enough.
I will say that if you put all your focus on a single task daily and give it your complete attention, 2-3 hours will be enough.
You can work on your business in the morning and do your freelance jobs in the afternoon. This worked for me, but it doesn’t mean you should do the same.
You can find what works best for you and make it a habit of doing it every day. Yes, every day.
How badly do you want it? Are 2-3 hours per day too much for you?
If so, then I will suggest you let go of the idea of becoming your own boss.
Well, if you can, then continue to read further.
6. Develop the habit of learning every day
I cannot tell you how much learning new things every day is essential. You have to keep the momentum going.
Well, I am not saying that you learn from Monday to Sunday for 2-3 hours per day. But at least set aside 30 minutes every day to learn about your business.
Can you make this sacrifice?
I guess you can. 30 minutes per day to learn new things isn’t a big deal.
This is really important. Due to our upbringing and conditioning, we have developed a mindset that is not suitable to become an entrepreneur.
This is why you must unplug from the system and look for new ways to create a successful business.
Read books, blogs, or watch Youtube videos.
Try to figure out what people are telling you, and if it is a viable way to build your own business.
I am not telling you to blindly follow someone. But at least learn the basics and from there you can design your own life based on your PERSONALITY.
From experience, what I have learned is this:
You read only 1 chapter of a book per day. Try to ponder on the points that are being elaborated.
For instance, many successful tell you that the morning routine is very important. Try to find your perfect morning routine, then based on that you can start your day.
The whole point of reading a book is to find SOME key points that will have a huge impact on your life.
7. Start your business
Now, before you hand in your resignation letter, you must have a steady income (freelancing).
This is crucial as it will help you to remain focused on your daily tasks. If ever you are having to worry about money to pay your bills and rent, your productivity will decrease. It’s human nature to worry way too much even for little things.
Now let’s talk about the business itself.
When you are just about to start your business you will be tempted to do everything at once. This is the initial stage when people are usually overexcited about a new venture and they are all fired up.
But after a few months these people start to lose motivation, the excitement fades away and they start to procrastinate.
This is quite obvious as they haven’t prepared their mind for success. They are still plugged into the old system.
REMEMBER. Building a successful business is a marathon.
1 step at a time, baby.
Trust me, you will see a massive difference when you are not trying to do everything at once.
Trying to build up your business, finding clients, answering phone calls, and replying to emails will make you feel exhausted and overwhelmed.
Multitasking may feel efficient on the surface, but it takes more time to complete a given task, and it will involve more errors.
Brief mental blocks created by shifting tasks can cost as much as 40% of your productive time.
Since your time is a vital asset here, wasting 40% is not a smart thing to do.
So, how can you start your business effectively?
It’s straightforward.
I am sure you must have heard about Pareto’s law, which states that 80% of your result comes from 20 % of your efforts. This is why you must find the most critical tasks for your business and tackle them when you are full of energy.
For example, in the morning, your willpower is at its maximum. Focusing on doing essential tasks for your business will ensure you are getting things done effectively.
We are living in an era, where starting an online business is the best option. You can start a brick-and-mortar company if you have the resources.
But lately, you must have noticed a lot of millionaires and billionaires who actually have an online business.
From my perspective, starting an online business can actually make you really rich very fast. People who started online businesses got financial freedom in less than 4years.

For instance, let’s say you want to start a blog.
What are the crucial steps to make your blog successful?
Maybe you think you must do keyword research, create articles, share them on social media, do guest posting, collect emails, send newsletters, add affiliate links to your blog post, create your own ebook, market your ebook… The list goes on.
This is why you won’t be able to stick to it. There are too many things to do. And it’s humanly impossible to do all these things at once.No wonder why people leave blogging just within a few months.
The essential steps towards creating a successful blog are:
Step 1. Do keyword research for your content before writing any blog post. You will want to have at least 5-10 keywords to concentrate on and focus on creating content for these keywords. Doing keyword research this way will make sure you are focusing all your energy on creating quality blog posts for the next few weeks.
Step 2. Create content at your own pace. There is no need to create 2-3 blog posts per week. If you can create only 1 quality blog post, then do it. Don’t add any unnecessary pressure as it will make you feel overwhelmed.
Step 3. After you have written your blog post, come back to revise it the next day. This will help you to have a fresh perspective, which will make your content much better.
Step 4. Once you have published your blog post, you can create a few pins for Pinterest and a few images for any other social media. Please focus on only one or two social media platforms.
Step 5. Repeat the process.
In short, the most straightforward process is:
Keyword research → Writing content → Revising your content → Publishing your content → Posting on social media.
As you can see, the process is simple, but people want everything right now.
They want to know when they can monetize their blog, when they can create an email list, or when they should add affiliate links.
The simple answer is when you start you get at least 100 visits per day to your blog.
If you are not getting 100 visits per day, your focus should be to increase your blog traffic first, then start your email list or monetize your blog.

If you want to become more effective in your daily tasks, I will advise you the following:
- Put your mobile in silence. You can schedule a specific time to reply to your calls or messages.
- Turn off all notifications while you are working, and please stay away from social media.
- Try to tackle one task at a time. Remember one crucial task per day.
- Last, be patient and believe in yourself.
One crucial thing you must understand is that you can do whatever you want with your time only when you have completed your daily task.
This is the key to success my friend.
For instance, if you are a blogger, you will be creating quality content regularly. If you are a youtube it will be creating videos regularly.
You will read a blog or watch a youtube channel ONLY when those people are consistent with their schedule. Right?
Final thoughts: How to get away from your 9 to 5 jobs easily
We have been trained to think that life needs to be hard when it’s not the case. We have been trained to consider that 9 to 5 jobs are the only path to a successful and happy life.
If you want to achieve success and work for yourself, you must make the necessary sacrifices and unplug from the system.
It will take time for you to get there, but it will indeed happen if you have determination, work smartly, and have a lot of patience.
And please don’t forget, take it easy.
Don’t be in a hurry to reach your goal. You will find TREMENDOUS happiness in your journey if you work at your own pace and let things unfold with time.

Hello Monika,
Thank you a lot. I wish you all the best for your future.
Happy Blogging!
Hello VibaleBlog,
You have mentioned all valid steps an points. I am totally agree with you on these steps.
One should not depend on the 9-5 job these days. There is no meaning to retire late if you can retired now. There are lots of opportunities available now a days to earn money and live freedom lifestyle.
Another best point you mentioned “Develop the habit of learning every day”. One should always develop the habit of learning new everyday. One should develop this habbit, they can turn this learning into perfect side hustle, and then work on it parallely along with the job.
Eventually it will create a backup to escape from RAT RACE of 9-5 job.
Good points. Keep sharing such good contents and keep up the good work.
Thanks

Hello Amol,
I am glad that you liked the article. Wish you all the best for your blogging journey 😃 .
Happy blogging.
Hi There Viable Blog, I did it after 8 years of running my blog part time. It’s been just over 2 years now full time. I offer services for social media that is the main part of the business as well as teaching and consulting.
I just released my first online course and some affiliate products to expand my business and not work 14 hour days as I have been. That’s my biggest challenge, working long hours to get it all done and I’ve hired 3 freelancers to help with projects.
As for learning, I’m always learning and put that on my calendar to learn more. I have meetings with a FB marketing expert weekly to go over FB ads. I attend other webinars and workshops on everything related to social media, blogging and SEO as they change so rapidily. It’s like housework, a job that is never done 🙂
But I love the flexibility of working the times and days I want and working for myself, the freedom is awesome!
Hello Lisa,
It’s indeed an awesome experience once you have left your job and started your own business.
Wish you all the best.
Happy blogging.
I think you are hitting the mark with these points. I’ve spent years dabbling in blogging and lurching forward only to hit a roadblock because I lacked the knowledge to do things correctly, then giving up. Only after being patient and making progress one step at a time and listening to those who have been there before me, will I make real sustainable progress. This mindset has been a game changer. Wanting it and making it happen are tow different things.
Hello Paul,
How are you? Blogging takes time. Usually, people get discouraged in the first 6-12 months. The most important thing in blogging is to create quality blog posts consistently. Whether it is 1 blog post per week or 4.
I wish you all the best for your blogging journey.
Happy blogging!
