So you have decided to use Ads on your blog to start to earn some bucks. And you want to know how you can increase your Google Adsense’s RPM.

You have come to the right place, my friend.

Before I show how to increase your Page’s RPM, let’s get into the mechanics of RPM so that you have a better understanding.

Shall we?

What is page RPM?

Page RPM is an abbreviation for Revenue per thousand impressions. It’s a standard advertisement metric used by publishers to estimate how much they can earn per thousand impressions.

Page RPM varies widely between bloggers and it is dependent on many factors such as niche selection, quality traffic, demographics, and more.

It is very easy to calculate a page’s RPM.

The simple formula is:

Page RPM = (Revenue/Number of pageviews) x 1000

For example, if you have a monthly revenue of $50 which is earned by 5,000 page views, your page RPM will be: (15/5000) x 1000 = $3.

So how can you earn money with Google Adsense?

There are 3 common methods by which you can earn money with Display ads:

CPC stands for Cost Per Click. It means that when someone clicks on your ad, you earn money. It usually varies between $0.02 up to $7 for each click you can generate.

CPM stands for Cost Per Impression. It means you can earn money when the ads are just shown to your audience. They don’t need to click on the ads for you to make an income. Usually, you can earn anywhere between $5 up to $20 for every 1000 impressions you can generate on your blog.

CPA stands for Cost per action. It means you will earn money when an ad leads to a sale (or action). You will also make money when someone sign-up through the ad.

That being said, let’s now see how you can increase your Google AdSense RPM.

How To Increase Google AdSense RPM

1. Create quality content

Having quality content is the foundation for your successful blog. As far as I know, there isn’t anyone who will like to read mediocre content.

Quality Content

So, is it necessary to apply all the strategies that you hear all the time?

Well, it depends on your strengths.

If you are good at creating informative content, then do that for at least 1 year.

If you are good at marketing your content, then focus on that.

In the end, it boils down to the amount of quality content you have and how you promote it.

It’s that simple.

Now, I am not telling you to create the best content that exists on the web for a specific keyword you are targeting.

The thing is, there are people out there who like to read good content which is fun and informative at the same time.

Your goal is to find your way to reach those readers who will come to read your new blog posts, just because they LOVE your style of writing.

2. Try to increase your pageviews and user engagement

First, how can you increase your page view?

It’s simple.

Try to add internal links to relevant posts in your content. This way you can guide your audience to read other posts, that will help them understand a certain topic well.

Second, use images and videos to increase dwell time on your pages. Having images not only makes your content better but will also keep your users entertained.

Look, you don’t have to create a video for your readers. You can add a link to any related video that you find on youtube.

The thing with ads is that the more time people will spend on your blog, the more you will make.

SPECIAL NOTE: If you are struggling with blog traffic, you can use Pinterest to bring massive traffic to your new blog.

3. Increase the speed of your website

Speed of website

In 2022, the speed of a website is key. Whether it’s for higher ranking on search engines or to enhance user experience.

Though having a website with all the bells and whistles is tempting, your audience doesn’t really care about that, neither does Google.

Also, you will need to fix all technical issues your website is having which will definitely hurt your overall performance.

Head over to Google’s Page Speed insight and enter your URL. It will do a quick audit of your website and let you know how you can increase your page speed.

If ever you have a slow website, then here are a few things that you can do:

4. Strengthen your SEO

SEO is crucial for your online business to reach its full potential. It’s always important to learn and implement the latest SEO strategies to be able to have a higher ranking on search engines.

Pro Tip: You don’t need to know everything about SEO to be able to get on the first page. Having basic SEO knowledge is enough to create a successful online business.

Also, you should fix any broken links that your webmaster tool shows you. Broken links are known to hurt SEO. You should always keep in mind that broken links often go unnoticed as the impact is very slow.

5. Increase targeted traffic

Getting traffic for your website is good. But having targeted traffic is even better.

For instance, having more targeted traffic will:

  • Increase your page’s RPM.
  • Help to generate more clicks on your ads.
  • Generate more sales from your affiliate links.
  • Help to get more subscriber.
  • Increase page views, which will increase your income significantly.

So, how can you increase your chance of getting more targeted traffic?

Getting more targeted traffic is way easier than you can think. For instance, you can:

By far, the easiest and fastest way to get exponential traffic to your website is using Pinterest.

If you haven’t yet included Pinterest in your traffic strategies, then let me show you the potential of a single pin.

viral pin updated

As you can see, this single pin generated 3,120 clicks to my blog in only 1 month.

If you are struggling with traffic, then this is how I am using Pinterest to drive massive traffic to my blog.

6. Make sure your ad is visible and optimized

Ask yourself this question. Will your ad be effective if it’s not visible to your audience?

Nopes, right?

Advertisers are spending more money on CPM lately, so it’s quite obvious that all your ads must be visible.

There are different types of ads placement that you can try. Some of the most common ads are:

  • InText Ads: These ads are placed within the text of your content
  • InFold Ads: These ads appear at the bottom of the screen
  • InTag Ads: These ads are displayed according to the content of your blog’s page
  • InArticle Ads: These ads are displayed between the paragraphs of your content
  • InFrame Ads: These ads fit into the right and left of the screen

So which one will be best for you?

Though InText Ads, InFold Ads, and InArticles Ads tend to perform better, I will suggest you try out everyone on them and see which one is performing best for you.

7. Try to display only relevant ads to your audience

Ad relevance is vital to increase your Google Adsense RPM. This will increase the effectiveness of the ads and they will generate more clicks.

So how can you do that?

It’s very simple.

Head over to your Google Adsense account. On the left, click on “Add” and select “Overview”.

Click on the pencil icon and you will be directed to the ad setting review page.

On the right side under Ad formats enable matched content. If ever you are not getting the option, enable “In page ads”.

Voila. It was easy, right?

8. Block categories that are not relevant to your niche

Some ads will have a lot of impressions, but sometimes they don’t generate enough revenue.

These ads can lower your Google Adsense RPM. The best way to deal with that is to use the “Blocking Controls” feature.

Head over to your Google Adsense and click on “Blocking controls”. Under “Content” select your domain name.

You can manage both sensitive and general categories in this section. Let me show you how you can do that.

Click on “Manage General categories”.

Here you can enable categories that are related to your niche.

You can also select individual ads and block them if you think they are not related to your niche.

This time instead of selecting your domain name, choose “Ad review center”.

Here you can easily block each individual ad by clicking on the blocking icon.

9. Start header bidding

Header bidding is a technique that allows you to choose the highest bidder for your header.

If you are allowing ads to compete for your header, it will automatically maximize your revenue and your page RPM.

If you want to learn more about heder bidding and the setup, this article will help you.

10. Diversify your ad networks

Ideally, the best way to maximize your ads revenue is by displaying as many ads as you can.

But this can hurt user experience, which I think is more important than a couple of extra bucks.

Now, depending on your website’s traffic, you can choose other ad networks that will help you to increase your RPM.

So, which ad network will I advise you to choose?

Though you have a lot of options, I will highly advise you to choose Ezoic as it is specially designed for new bloggers.

SPECIAL NOTE: When it comes to making money with ads, EZOIC is the best option for new bloggers.

This is because it has no minimum traffic requirement and new websites will get the highest RPM.

Create your Ezoic account now, and start to make money with ads.

Final thoughts: How to Increase Google Adsense RPM

Having great RPM is highly dependent on the quality of traffic. Whether you use Google Adsense or other ad networks, these techniques that I have discussed will help you make more money with your ads.

That being said, the thing is that the more you will learn, the more you will earn. It sounds cliche, but it’s the truth, my friend.

Only by getting things done, you will be able to figure out what works best for you.
