By now almost everyone knows that blogging and social media complement each other very well.
My question is: are you using social media to leverage your blog traffic?
If not, then you are missing a lot as social media is an integral part of your blogging strategy.
By far, the best way to get consistent traffic is through search engines. But, it doesn’t mean that you should ignore the power of social media, especially in 2021.
Based on research and personal experience, these social media platforms tend to perform best for blogs:
If you are not using at least one of these social media platforms, then you won’t be able to create enough momentum for your blog, especially if your blog is new.
There are enough resources on the internet that will show you how to use social media to increase traffic or get more ROI. I won’t discuss those because I think most of them won’t really make a big impact.
In this post, I will show you the MINIMUM efforts required to get the best results.
I am a strong believer in smart work, instead of working 12-16 hours per day. And the truth is that the 80/20 rule is really effective in blogging.
That doesn’t mean you cannot work for 12-16 hours per day. If you can invest that amount of time in your blog, then go for it.
Your first goal should be to reach 50 articles in a few months. And sometimes to be able to pull that off, you actually need to invest a lot of time.
After that, you can invest less time if you want to.
So, why I am saying 50 articles?
It’s because your first 50 articles will give you an idea of the topics that are performing well.
Once you get that information, you can then focus on creating more content on the topics that Google LOVES about your blog.
Look, there will be always at least 2-3 topics that will outperform other topics in your blog. So creating more articles on these topics is a smart way to generate more traffic.
Usually, a new blog will start to get ORGANIC traffic after 6 months. This is what most people say, and it is the truth.
That’s why it’s important to use social media for your blog in the first 6months.
You should know how people are interacting with your content and which type of content generates more buzz.
That being said, let me show you the best ways you can use these 3 social media platforms to generate a ton of traffic to your NEW blog.
1. Using Pinterest for blog traffic
I actually love Pinterest a lot. It’s kinda the new savior for bloggers. It’s fun and easy to use. And the cool thing about it is that you can generate some serious traffic.
Actually, for all new bloggers out there, I will highly advise you to concentrate your efforts on Pinterest first.
So, why I am saying so?
It’s really simple.
Organic traffic takes time. Facebook and Twitter traffic will give you a spike in the first few days, then the traffic will go down.
And of course, I don’t think you will invest money in Facebook ads. Will you?
Look, when you are new to blogging, you should try to get FREE traffic as much as you can.
This is crucial.
If you have read the book, “The Lean Startup” by Eric Ries, you will surely know what I am talking about.
Basically, when you are creating a new blog, you must make sure that you are not investing a lot of money.
The logic goes like this.
If you create a system that is costing a lot of money, it will be very difficult to feed that system down the road to generate profit.
The more it costs you to run the system, the harder it will be for you to maintain it.
It’s that simple.
That being said, Pinterest is the best platform to generate FREE traffic for your blog.
Pinterest traffic works like this:
You add 5 new pins per day and you get 1 click.
The next day you add another 5 pins you get 1 click + 1 from yesterday.
On day 3, you have added 5 more pins and you generate 3 clicks.
And it continues like this, till you get a constant flow of traffic.
The exponential effect is really insane. In 1 month you can POTENTIALLY Generate around 400 clicks.
Now it won’t be always like that, but I hope you understand what I am trying to say.
Actually, your pins will continue to bring traffic even after 1 year. And who doesn’t what that?
That being said, here is how you can use Pinterest for your blog traffic in the easiest way.
- First, you must Convert and claim your account with Pinterest. It’s really very easy and you will get it done in a few minutes. Learn how you convert and claim your account.
- Next, you should create new boards related to your niche and optimize them with keywords. Learn how you find keywords for your boards.
- Now follow a few relevant group boards to have access to a new audience. You can use Pingroupie to find boards that are related to your niche.
- Apply for Rich Pins. This will enable you to generate more traffic. Learn what is a rich pin and how you can enable it.
- Create a few pins for each of your blog posts. You can use Canva to create new pins in just 1 minute.
- Use manual pinning to add new pins to your relevant boards. Learn how to use manual pinning.
Voila. It’s all that you have to do, and you will have a Pinterest account ready to generate traffic for your new blog.
2. Using Twitter for blog traffic
If you use Twitter properly, it can bring a lot of traffic to your new blog. Now, I am not telling you to spend a lot of time on the platform.
You can spend at least a few minutes per day, and that will be enough.
Actually, for the first few months, Twitter was the main source of traffic for my blog. Now Pinterest is bringing the most traffic.
So how can use Twitter effectively to generate more traffic?
Well, it’s really simple. I won’t discuss it here as I have a detailed article on it. Also, you will learn about a new platform that will help you to get more social shares for your posts for FREE.

3. Using Facebook for blog traffic
Previously facebook used to generate a lot of traffic for bloggers. But with the recent algorithm change, Facebook has limited the reach of the fan page.
That doesn’t mean you can not use it. It can be a good source of traffic if you want to invest time in it.
I personally don’t spend any time on Facebook, as it tends to consume a lot of time.
And for the amount of time I did spend on Facebook, the results were not as expected.
But I needed to find a way to have my blog posts posted on Facebook regularly, without me having to spend ANY time on the platform.
So, I did some research and was able to find a way to automatically add my posts to Facebook.
It’s really awesome as now I can spend my time creating more content.
There are two ways you can add your posts to Facebook automatically. You can either use IFTTT or you can use a plugin.
I chose to use the plugin.
If you want to add all your blog posts on Facebook automatically, then the below article will explain the whole setup.

Final thoughts: Social media for blogging
Sharing your blog content on social media can be a fun experiment. Actually, if you learn it well, you can generate a lot of traffic, especially with Pinterest.
My advice is to use at least 2 social media platforms in the beginning and see which one is generating better results.
I really don’t advise you to invest time on more social media platforms as it will consume a lot of time, and you will end up being frustrated.
It’s better to spend your time doing keyword research and creating new content instead of spending too much time on social media.
Actually, in blogging, your content brings you money. This is the most important thing for the first year.
Once you have created 100 articles, you can invest your time on other social media platforms and start a newsletter.
I know starting a blog is a lot of stress. But if you choose the right blogging strategy, you can actually start to enjoy blogging.
Be very patient with your blogging efforts as once you start to earn money with your blog, the growth is exponential.
Give your blog the time to grow.
